While the Newberry Springs Chamber of Commerce played
an information "gatekeeper" by censoring a knowledgeable resident at their
public meeting, the facts are doing the talking. Cadiz, Inc.'s CEO,
Susan Kennedy, stood before us in October and spun a marketing pitch that
ignored the cold, hard reality: The Northern Pipeline is dead in
the water.
The Chamber's leadership may be spellbound by corporate lobbyists and
their money, but the math is clear. Here is why the Northern Pipeline
is a total failure:
THE $19 MILLION HOLE IN THE GROUND
Cadiz has poured millions into a project that was a "dud" before they
even took the stage in Newberry Springs. Between the massive costs of
retrofitting and the legal roadblocks, the Northern Pipeline has become
a financial anchor that Cadiz can't shake.
THE 12-WEEK SILENCE
Kennedy promised a draft MOU for the Newberry CSD "immediately."
It's been over 12 weeks. Silence ! If this project was viable,
where is the paperwork? The truth? Kennedy knows the Northern
Pipeline isn't going to happen, and she's not going to waste another trip
to the desert on a project that is already dead. Yet, she still
wants our MOU to help Cadiz, Inc. acquire federal grants to bail out her
company.
THE SB 307 DEATH BLOW
California Senate Bill 307 wasn't just a "hurdle," it was the final nail.
It forces Cadiz, Inc. to face independent state scientists who actually respect
the USGS data. The USGS proves that Cadiz is overestimating water recharge
by a staggering 25,000 acre-feet per year. You can't "hydraulic control"
your way out of a math problem that big.
SMOKESCREENS & CENSORSHIP
Why did the Chamber president and Pastor Kelly Hough conspire to remove a
community member from the mic at the Chamber's public meeting? Because
transparency is the enemy of Cadiz's sales pitch. They prevented the
public from hearing about the numerous material lies and omissions that expose
this "misguided" project for what it is: a corporate trap for Newberry
Springs.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
Susan Kennedy didn't come here for our benefit; she came here twice to
lobby us because she is desperate. She is failing in the purpose of
her hiring. Cadiz, Inc. remains in serious trouble.
The Chamber demonstrates its ignorance by promoting Cadiz,
Inc.'s lies. The facts are with the N.S. Community Alliance. It is an entity
in Newberry that isn't being "snookered."
