The Newberry CSD Screw-Ups

Themselves A Pay Raise

Newberry, CA - As the upcoming November election approaches, the
Newberry Community Services District (CSD) incumbents Paula Deel and Margie
Roberts have been automatically re-elected due to a lack of opposition.
Emboldened by the fact that she doesn't have to face an opponent,
Paula Deel is not waiting. She has already placed on the agenda for the next
CSD board meeting, an agenda item for a pay raise. Raising the stipend for
each meeting to $75.00. This is a 50% increase from the current $50.00.
This raider is back again. Still not Wanted.
Repeated theft of her promises. After lying to the community
that she was going to fight the establishment of the BMT Minneola Solar project,
and then voting to support the project (with worthless modifications)
when it went before the county's Board of Supervisors, and being deeply involved
in the CSD getting bogged down in an employee lawsuit that is costing the CSD,
and the community, tens of thousands of dollars, director Paula Deel now wants
to give herself and the other board members a reward.
Paula Deel was also involved in the betrayal of secretly
flipping position for the local Clearway Energy project that green-lighted
the 5.5 square miles of solar that has given us carcinogenic silica dust
and the threat of being poisoned by an upwind lithium-ion battery fire.
Due to terrible mismanagement, the Newberry CSD has been
bleeding the loss of massive amounts of money. Director Deel has had
the responsibility of overseeing the financial books. After a financial
audit, that has cost many thousands of dollars, the CSD is now spending
many more thousands to have the books properly restructured by a
professional accounting firm.
Deel should be held accountable for her dereliction of
duty, not rewarded with a pay raise. A pay raise is inappropriate,
especially considering the controversies surrounding her tarnished tenure.
If the Newberry CSD was properly operated as a business,
where compensation is based upon performance, Paula Deel would be paying
the CSD compensation. The nerve of seeking a pay raise after a litany of
malfeasance in office demonstrates her further mismanagement!
Serving one's community is a privilege. It should be
strictly a volunteer opportunity. Taking a stipend from the limited
CSD treasury to enrich oneself is dishonoring the public's trust.
But crooked politicians have no conscience and Paula
Deel will probably find two or more CSD Board buddies who will support
and share her pilfering of the CSD coffer.
On other agenda matters, county Supervisor Dawn Rowe's
Field Representative Steve Reyes is expected to appear at the next CSD
meeting. He will likely receive an earfull. Rowe, who will be terming
out her seat, has failed to have a field representative attend a CSD
meeting. That speaks volumes of how Supervisor Rowe values us.
The deadly hazard of Clearway Energy's lithium-ion
batteries upwind to Newberry Springs will also be discussed. The
possible implementation of a fire alert system will be considered.
As though placing some purpose into her life, Paula
Deel has been on a mission of changing the CSD's policies, each meeting
placing multiple policy changes on the agenda. For the next meeting,
she has presented a half-dozen. As the Newberry CSD never uses a
consent calendar, the meeting will be long.
Most of the directors usually attend the meetings
not having previously reviewed the attachments to the agenda. So,
the meetings often drag as the directors haven't done their expected
homework.
The next CSD board meeting will take place on Tuesday,
August 27, 2024, at 6 P.M., at the Newberry CSD Building.
The ineffective fiddling Jack while Newberry suffers with Clearway's carcinogenic dust.
