A long ignored audit by the CSD board that is finally being done for the 2009-2010 fiscal year has resulted in $29,000.00 not being accounted for.

David B. Whitford, Jr., CPA, notified the Newberry CSD on July 18, 2013 that over $29,000.00 of CSD funds have unexplained, unverified, or missing receipts.  Sloppy CSD accounting practices cannot properly substantiate how the funds were spent or skimmed.

A Special CSD board meeting has been called for Tuesday, August 13, 2013 to discuss in part these unaccountable funds; and to close out the 2009-2010 Audit without further cost and research at this late date as to where the money went.

A board vote will be taken at the meeting to close the 2009-2010 Audit by calling for all 2009-2010 outstanding charges to be submitted the next day to the CSD by Noon for submission to the auditor for formal closure of the audit.

Closure of the 2009-2010 Audit will then allow for the opening of the 2010-2011 Audit.  The audits are addressing criticism by the 2012-2013 Grand Jury regarding the Newberry CSD's sloppy and improper accounting practices.

The CSD Special Meeting may also result in the board hiring a new CSD General Manager and Treasurer.  There is also the employment matter of a CSD public employee that will be considered by the board in closed session.

* In July, the CSD board voted to lower their stipends from $100.00 per meeting to $50.00.
