SHERIFF DEPARTMENT REPORT

DATE/TIME:  Tuesday, May 15, 2018 - 7:58 A.M..

INCIDENTS:  PC 664/187, Attempted Murder
PC 11378, Possession of Narcotics for Sales
PC 273(A), Willful Cruelty to a Child

LOCATION:  34100 block of Piute Road, Newberry Springs

SUSPECTS:  Crystal Jimenez; age 39, of Newberry Springs
Kenneth Smalley, age 43, of Newberry Springs
Michael Fowlkes, age 45, of Newberry Springs.

VICTIM:  Adult female, age 46, resident of Newberry Springs.

SUMMARY

    On May 15, 2018, at approximately 7:57 A.M., deputies from the Barstow Sheriff's Station responded to a residence in the 34100 block of Piute Road in Newberry Springs after a female called 9-1-1 advising she had been shot.  Upon arrival, deputies found the victim suffering from a gun shot wound to her arm.  The victim was given medical attention and told deputies that the injury had been caused by Crystal Jimenez, who fled the scene prior to their arrival.

    Deputies attempted to locate Jimenez at her residence in the 44300 block of Bedford Road in Newberry Springs but were unsuccessful.  The home was determined to be in deplorable conditions for the children who were found living there.  A search warrant was obtained and served at the residence.  Kenneth Smalley was subsequently arrested for willful cruelty to a child.

    On May 16, 2018, deputies contacted Jimenez at a residence in the 32900 block of Dune Road and a second search warrant was served.  Suspected methampethamine and other items commonly associated with the sales of narcotics, including syringes and scales, were located on the property.  Jimenez was arrested for possession of narcotics for sales as well as attempted murder.  Michael Fowlkes was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
