SUMMARY

On Saturday, January 30, 2016, sheriff's dispatch received a report of suspicious circumstances.  The caller saw two males carrying property from a residence to a truck that was parked along Fort Cady Road in Newberry Springs.  The truck was described as an older white truck with a camper type shell and an orange strip on it.  The suspects were only described as two white males.

Deputies Woods, Halterman and Chacon of the Barstow Sheriff's Station responded.  Sheriff's Aviation Division was on-scene within a few minutes and started providing deputies with information about the property layout.  Aviation then started an aerial scan for vehicles in the area.  Aviation spotted a white truck, on Fort Cady Road half-mile south of the residence.  When the truck occupants heard the sound of the sheriff's helicopter, two males exited the truck and walked away eventually crossing over railroad tracks.

Deputy Woods secured the crime scene, started surveillance and waited for responding units.  Deputy Halterman responded to the truck and saw it was white with a camper on the bed and an orange blanket covering the camper.  Carl Gordon of Newberry Springs was detained pending an investigation.  Deputy Chacon circled to the south side of Fort Cady Road, and detained Robert Poole pending an investigation.

During the investigation, the caller positively identified the white truck and both Gordon and Poole as the persons he saw loading property into the white truck.  The victims positively identified numerous items of property such as tools, extension cords and wiring as their property.  The total value of recovered property was $1,795.00 which was returned to the victims.  Carl Gordon and Robert Poole were arrested and booked at Barstow Jail for felony residential burglary.  Bail was set at $75,000 each.
