INCIDENT: PC459 Residential Burglary
LOCATION: 31000 block of Fort Cady Road in Newberry Springs
SUSPECTS: 1. Carl Gordon, age 22, of Newberry Springs;
2. Robert Poole, age 29, a transient of Newberry Springs.
SUMMARY
On Saturday, January 30, 2016, sheriff's dispatch received a report of
suspicious circumstances. The caller saw two males carrying property from a residence
to a truck that was parked along Fort Cady Road in Newberry Springs. The truck was
described as an older white truck with a camper type shell and an orange strip on it.
The suspects were only described as two white males.
Deputies Woods, Halterman and
Chacon of the Barstow Sheriff's Station responded. Sheriff's Aviation Division was
on-scene within a few minutes and started providing deputies with information about the
property layout. Aviation then started an aerial scan for vehicles in the area.
Aviation spotted a white truck, on Fort Cady Road half-mile south of the residence.
When the truck occupants heard the sound of the sheriff's helicopter, two males exited
the truck and walked away eventually crossing over railroad tracks.
Deputy Woods secured the crime scene, started surveillance and waited
for responding units. Deputy Halterman responded to the truck and saw it was white
with a camper on the bed and an orange blanket covering the camper. Carl Gordon of
Newberry Springs was detained pending an investigation. Deputy Chacon circled to
the south side of Fort Cady Road, and detained Robert Poole pending an investigation.
During the investigation, the caller positively identified the white truck and both Gordon
and Poole as the persons he saw loading property into the white truck. The victims
positively identified numerous items of property such as tools, extension cords and wiring
as their property. The total value of recovered property was $1,795.00 which was
returned to the victims. Carl Gordon and Robert Poole were arrested and booked at
Barstow Jail for felony residential burglary. Bail was set at $75,000 each.
