Auto Theft Suspects Caught

DATE/TIME:  Tuesday, November 29, 2016  2:00 P.M.

INCIDENT:  Stolen vehicles and property recovery

LOCATION:  34000 block of Hampshire Road, Newberry Springs, CA

SUSPECT(S):  Joseph Trexler, 37 years old, Newberry Springs
Edward Barriere, 68 years old, Newberry Springs

SUMMARY

    On November 29, 2016 at 2:00 P.M., deputies from the Barstow Sheriff's Station conducted a pedestrian check in the area of 34714 Hampshire Road in the City of Newberry Springs. 

    Two men, later identified as Joseph Trexler and Edward Barriere, were contacted and Trexler was found to have a felony warrant out for his arrest and was detained. 

    Deputies found the vehicle they were working on was reported stolen from Hesperia and the trailer behind the truck was also reported stolen from Barstow.  Deputies contacted the San Bernardino County Auto Theft Task Force (SANCATT) to assist in the investigation. 

    SANCATT Investigators responded to the location and wrote a search warrant for the location.  During the search of the location several other stolen vehicles and property was located.  Both suspects were also found to have live ammunition and a large military ordinance was recovered.  The Sheriff's Departments Bombs and Arson team responded to the location and removed the ordinance.

    Trexler and Barriere were arrested and booked on charges of possession of stolen vehicles, possession of stolen property and felon in possession of ammunition.  The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be added.
