Ryan David Gordon, a previous resident of Newberry Springs, was extradited to Barstow from Las Vegas, Nevada, by San Bernardino sheriff officers to answer to charges of allegedly beating a Newberry Springs man.

The reported unprovoked attack took place on Sunday, October 9, 2011.  Through the coordinated efforts of the San Bernardino County's Sheriff's Department, the High Desert Crime Impact Team, and the federal U.S. Marshall service, Ryan Gordon was traced to Las Vegas.

Gordon was arrested on November 2, 25-days after the attack and was held at the Clark County Detention Center for 20-days until his transfer to Barstow.  While incarcerated at the Las Vegas detention center, Gordon celebrated his 27th birthday last Sunday, November 20.

On Tuesday, November 22, Gordon appeared in Barstow's Superior Court before Judge Victory Roy Stull.  The principle charge against Gordon is violation of California Penal Code 245(a)(1); assault with great bodily injury.

Gordon at the court appearance was provided a copy of the complaint and arraigned.  Having been advised of his rights and plea information, the court entered a plea of not guilty to all counts and Gordon denied special allegations.  The court appointed a public defender.  A pre-preliminary hearing has been set for Tuesday, November 29 at 9 A.M. in Department B4; and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, December 1, at 9 A.M., in Department B4.

Gordon is currently being housed at the sheriff department's Barstow facility.  An enhanced bail has been set at $500,000.

At the time of the attack, Gordon is believed to have had the companionship of three others, two of whom reportedly conspired with Gordon to catch the fleeing victim; whereafter, the tall 6-foot 4-inch Gordon, weighing 255 pounds according to sheriff records, allegedly beat the 5-food 4-inch, 120-pound, 44-year old man to where the victim had to be transported to Loma Linda by ambulance for reconstructive facial surgery.

Anyone with information about the attack is requested to call sheriff Detective Darin Lansdown or Sgt. Rod Medley at 760-256-4838.
