Newberry Springs Participates In Major Pow Wow

Native American event to be held
in San Bernardino County.

      The Newberry Springs Community Alliance is representing Newberry Springs as a cosponsor of the 2012 Mother Earth's People Inter-tribal Council's Native American Gathering.

      The event will be held May 5th and 6th, 2012 from 10 A.M. to dusk at the Mojave Narrows Regional Park in Victorville, California.

      The event will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year and its 3rd consecutive year at the Mojave Narrows County Park.  Other than the county's nominal park entrance fee of $10 per vehicle (up to 6 people), the Pow Wow event is free.

      According to Ted Stimpfel of the Community Alliance, the event is open to everyone.

      "Pow Wows are deeply rooted in Native American culture," stated Stimpfel.  "They hold a major spiritual significance.  This is not only an opportunity for Native Americans to assemble from the West, Canada, and Mexico; but they are reaching-out to share their culture to their brothers of all other races.  Everyone is welcome."

      The event is educational and family oriented with art and craft programs for children.  Families can bring their own food to eat in the park or enjoy an exceptional variety of foods from food vendors.

      According to Stimpfel, this year's event is expected to have a minimum of 11,000 to 13,000 people visiting during the two day event.  The two days will have a similar schedule.  The busiest day of attendance will be Saturday.

      "This is a significant inter-tribal Pow Wow," said Stimpfel, "and the Newberry Springs Community Alliance is proud to be participating in a portion of this event's organizing."
